Shi received his B.A. from the Department of Chinese Language & Literature of ECNU and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the School of TCFL of ECNU. He has been engaged in TCFL since 1988, and has been teaching Economic Chinese in the Economic Sinology program at Hochschule Bremen in Germany since 1991. He is involved in international Chinese language teaching theory, international Chinese teacher development, and intercultural communication. He has published many academic papers, represented by The Influence of Negative Teaching Experiences on Chinese Language Teachers' Behavior (first author) and Non-preset Events in CSL Classroom Teaching Resources and Their Value (second author). He was named Outstanding Undergraduate Tutor of ECNU.
