Founded in 1951, East China Normal University (ECNU) is committed to the cultivation of high-level talents and the development of scientific innovation in China. In October 2017, ECNU established the School of International Chinese Studies based on the School of TCFL and the Institute of Global Chinese Language Teacher Education, with a view to forming a trinity and coordinated development model with Chinese language studies and Chinese cultural studies as basic research, and international education of Chinese language studies as applied research.

To fulfill the commitment of fostering virtue through education and scaling new heights, the School has produced tens of thousands of outstanding alumni, including international students, following its motto of being realistic, creative and exemplary. In September 2002, the School officially established the Alumni Association to serve as a bridge to build closer ties and exchanges between alumni at home and abroad, and between alumni and the alma mater. Drawing on excellent resources from all over the world, this is expected to promote the alma mater by harnessing the intellectual strength and extensive influence of its alumni.

Emphasis is placed on comprehensive development. With the mission of education, civilization and development, it has produced a number of bi-lingual, bi-cultural and bi-competent talents in international education of Chinese language and cultural exchanges between China and other countries, as well as application-based Chinese talents with excellent intercultural communication skills. Apart from self-fulfillment in their respective fields, the alumni also contribute to social progress and thus make the School proud of them.

Since its establishment, the School's Alumni Association has made efforts to adapt to the situation of higher education reform in the new era, and adhere to the strategic goal of building a world-class comprehensive and research-oriented university with distinctive characteristics. Therefore, it has taken the initiative to contact alumni, prepare alumni organizations, improve the quality of alumni services, promote alumni culture and build a platform to promote the joint development of alumni and their alma mater.

Looking into the future, the Alumni Association of the School of International Chinese Studies of ECNU will take into account both the university and alumni to work from an alumni perspective and focus on the university, so as to serve and support university and alumni-related work in a planned, disciplined, efficient and productive manner.
