Yu is an associate professor with a Ph.D. in literature, and a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests include English poetics, comparative literature, and dramaturgy, with research results published in academic journals including Literature & Art Studies, Comparative Literature in China, Foreign Literature Studies, and Foreign Literatures. He is in charge of a post-grant project of National Social Science Fund Urban Writing of Contemporary American Poetry, general projects of Shanghai Social Science Planning, research innovation projects of Shanghai Education Commission, and scientific research fund projects of Shanghai Excellent Young Teachers. He has been the editor-in-chief of Crossing the Frontier and Requiem (essays on the 30th anniversary of Theatre Arts) and Confrontation (France), and has published more than ten translations of foreign drama and academic criticism. He currently offers courses such as Western Culture (bilingual), History of Foreign Literature, Introduction to Comparative Literature, Western Literary Aesthetics in 20th Century, etc.
