In the context of the national initiative of bringing intangible cultural heritage to campuses and communities, Shanghai Jinshan Cultural Affairs Bureau and Jinshan Peasant Painting Academy commissioned the preparation of the Colors of Earth: Local Teaching Materials of Jinshan Peasant Painting. Despite the diverse promotion of intangible cultural heritage nowadays, they rarely resort to curriculum education on the systematic inheritance of intangible cultural heritage from the perspective of regional culture. In this regard, the book is an advanced exploration of bringing intangible cultural heritage to campuses. In contrast with the emphasis on art teaching in the existing teaching materials of Jinshan peasant paintings, the book deeply integrates the excellent regional culture implied in the paintings and presents a clear picture to readers in the description of the historical evolution, creation process, artistic characteristics, folklore and municipal inheritors of Jinshan peasant paintings. To offer featured courses on Jinshan peasant paintings in primary and secondary schools and communities, after-school refueling stations are designed to combine practice with advanced learning and documentation. By coloring in line drawings of well-known Jinshan peasant paintings, students are expected to try their hand at creating their own peasant paintings. Once published, the book was immediately introduced to primary, secondary and community programs in Jinshan area, and was well received for its regional concept and perspective, in-depth graphic presentation, and diversified after-school practice and interaction. The book has far-reaching implications for the exploration of bringing intangible cultural heritage to campuses, the inheritance and dissemination of regional culture, and the aesthetic education of students.
