Huang is a lecturer at the School of International Chinese Studies of ECNU. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Chinese Language & Literature of Peking University and is a visiting scholar at the Department of History of the University of Wisconsin.

He focuses on Chinese modern and contemporary literature, and Chinese ideological history, and offers courses such as Modern Chinese Literature, Chinese Ideology and Culture, etc.

He hosted the Research on Youth Politics in Literature of Liberated Area (19CZW047), a youth project of National Social Science Fund in 2019, and has published multiple papers in journals including Literary Review, Literature & Art Studies, Journal of Peking University, Essays on Contemporary Chinese Literature Studies, Journal of Modern Chinese Studies, etc. He has also co-translated and published Rancière's La chair des mots: Politiques de L'Ecriture.
