Zhu is a professor with a Ph.D. He was selected into the New Century Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education (2007), the Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program (2009), and the Changjiang Scholars Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education (2015-2020). He was the Head of the Department of Chinese Language & Literature (2016-2020), and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Theoretical Studies In Literature and Art, Vice President of China Association of Literary and Art Theory, Dean of the School of International Chinese Studies, and Executive Deputy Director of the International Chinese Language Teacher Training Base. He is also Chairman of the Professional Committee for Teacher Development of the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching, an international editorial board member of CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture (an AHCI journal), an executive director of the International Academic Union for Cultural Exchange, and a member of the Steering Committee for Higher Education of the Ministry of Education (2018-2022).

Courses Offered: Literary Theory, Aesthetics, Marxist Literary Theory, Sociology of Literature, Contemporary Western Literary Theory and Aesthetics, Sociology of Literature, Selected Lectures on Literary and Art, and Selected Readings of Original Works on Western Contemporary Literary Theory and Aesthetics.

He is engaged in literary, aesthetic and cultural studies, with a focus on literary theory and literary sociology.

Since 1986, he has published more than 120 academic papers in domestic and international journals, and delivered monographs, collections of papers, translations and collections of essays. His papers and works have been awarded the first, second and third prizes five times by the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences, including Literature and Power: A Critical Examination of Literary Legitimacy, which won the second prize of the 9th Shanghai Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences, and The Cultural Logic of Power, which won the first prize of the 14th Shanghai Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences and the second prize of the 8th Outstanding Achievement Award in Scientific Research of Higher Education (Humanities and Social Sciences) of the Ministry of Education. He has received research grants of different levels. The Research on Contemporary Western Frontier Literary Theory led by him was approved as a major project by the National Social Science Fund.
